“There are risks and costs to a program of action, but they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction.” (John F. Kennedy)

Estate Planning

Many people think that “estate" planning only applies to individuals with very high net worth or those with a lot of assets. But EVERYONE has an estate, whether it’s personal belongings in your home or whether it's determining who will take care of your minor children upon your passing.

While this is usually not something we look forward to talking about or even want to face sometimes, the reality is that none of us will live forever. Make your plan NOW on how your final wishes will be carried out when that time comes – DON’T LET THE COURTS DECIDE FOR YOU!

Wills

If you die without a valid Will (intestate), then the state will essentially write your Will for you. Don't let the state make assumptions about how you want your property distributed!

Trusts

There are many different kinds of Trusts out there. But generally speaking, a Trust is a legal relationship where a Trustee (a person or Trust company) holds property for the benefit of a beneficiary.

Powers of Attorney

A Power of Attorney is a legal document that authorizes someone you designate to act for you (and manage your financial affairs) if you become incapacitated.

Advance Health Care Directives (Living Wills)

An Advance Health Care Directive (also known as a Living Will) is a legal document in which you state your wishes about medical treatments and life support. This document also gives another person that you designate the permission to make medical decisions for you if you become unable to make those decisions yourself.

Probate Proceedings

Probate is a court-supervised legal process that includes filing the deceased person's will, identifying and inventorying the property, paying off debts and taxes, and eventually distributing what's left.

Legal Consulting

Because I’m always asked a variety of questions related to “law," JBLaw has a Legal Consulting practice area for those individuals and small business owners who just need to have an attorney available to answer questions. This may involve drafting or reviewing a contract or assisting with business setup.

Legal Coaching

Sometimes you may not want to hire an attorney. Perhaps you just received a legal notice from the court or need to file a single document with the court. If you want to be a do-it-yourselfer, know that courts are very particular. So you may just have a question on what forms to file with a court. Or you may just want an attorney to review what you have completed on your own, just to make sure it doesn't get rejected by the court. JBLaw can help with all of that.

So how may JBLaw help YOU?
